BILD journalist Christian Falk has shared what he’s now heard about Liverpool’s rumoured bid for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.

Writing for his ‘Fact Files’ column for CaughtOffside, the Bundesliga insider understands that the 19-year-old’s father has been holding ‘very concrete’ talks with the Merseyside outfit.

“The biggest focus is still on Liverpool,” said Falk.

“There were rumours of an offer Liverpool made to Dortmund for Jude Bellingham, but I’ve heard that no such offer has reached the club at the moment.

“But there is a reason – there are very concrete talks between Bellingham’s father, Mark, and Liverpool, but both sides are not together when talking about money at the moment.

“Liverpool will first make an offer as and when they have an agreement with the midfielder’s father.

“You see that Bellingham is willing to go to Liverpool but if another club puts a lot more money on the table, it would be hard to say yes.

“I think the biggest rival in this race is Manchester City at the moment, as they have the money, they’re a Premier League club and competing for titles. Real Madrid are still behind the two Premier League clubs at the moment.

“I think the Bellingham family will try to get an agreement with Liverpool, but the Reds find themselves somewhat shackled by their finances in comparison to Pep Guardiola’s outfit.”

Liverpool struggling with finances

After all these years with FSG promising the funds needed to sign a marquee midfielder, there’s a real possibility Liverpool could miss out on their number one target.

Despite the fact that Bellingham seems convinced by the project at Anfield, the biggest hurdle in the way is having the finances needed to do the deal.

At times in the past, it has been claimed the Reds have set aside the money needed to land the 19-year-old from Dortmund.

Figures have always been quoted in excess of £100m, so this wouldn’t have been a surprise for the club this year.

Therefore, if FSG use the excuse they can’t afford Bellingham due to Liverpool’s lack of Champions League football, they are straight up lying. They have been preparing for this transfer for years now.
