Journalist Jacque Talbot has shared an update on interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, after Fabrizio Romano revealed Liverpool are monitoring him.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the reporter claimed the Reds have enquired about the 19-year-old in the past, but his price has increased dramatically since then.
“So, the story we did on Florian Wirtz. Romano reported that Liverpool were interested in him,” said Talbot.
“It’s not something we heard, so we asked, and it was that Liverpool had looked at him in 2021 – when he would have only been at Bayer Leverkusen for a year.

“And they were told £50m or get lost, and they opted not to at the time, because, you know, this was a 2021 – he wasn’t quite on the level that £50m would have demanded.
“But obviously since then, his rise has been tremendous. He was playing in the first team for Bayer Leverkusen almost immediately, training with the first team at 16 years old.
“So anyway, Bayer Leverkusen, we hear, want north of £150m and they don’t really want to let him go until after the Euro’s in 2024, which is in Germany I believe.
“I’m not really sure why that is to be honest, but that’s just what we heard – that any move [would be] £150m – £200m, that kind of figure. That’s what he’d go for if he does.”
Leverkusen want £150m for Liverpool target Wirtz
According to Romano, Liverpool have joined Real Madrid and Barcelona in monitoring Wirtz, who Jurgen Klopp is said to be a huge admirer of.
Looking at just how talented he already is, it’s no surprise to see some of Europe’s biggest clubs keeping an eye on the youngster.
Before Jude Bellingham erupted onto the scene, the German was probably the most exciting prospect in the Bundesliga.
However, a serious knee injury in March 2022 rendered him out of action until the turn of the new year.

Despite this, it seems like the 19-year-old has undergone a miraculous recovery, and he is playing better than ever before. He has since ranked as the second-best player for Leverkusen in the league this term.
Having been hailed as ‘outstanding’ by Germany boss Hansi Flick, Wirtz would be an exceptional signing for Liverpool. However, the £150m price-tag will be a huge barrier towards this.
