Liverpool are monitoring Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the reporter claimed the Reds have joined Barcelona and Real Madrid in tracking the 19-year-old, who Jurgen Klopp is said to be a huge admirer of.
“Barcelona are following the player, for sure,” said Romano.
“Their people have been [at the BayArena] many times to follow the player.
“The same also [goes] for Real Madrid, so, the two Spanish clubs are monitoring the player.
“But I’m told, English clubs are also keeping an eye on Wirtz.
“Especially the situation of Liverpool is one to watch, because Liverpool are monitoring the player.
“I’m told that Jurgen Klopp is understood to be a big fan of Florian Wirtz, and so they’re among many clubs who are monitoring this player.
“The expectation around Wirtz and Bayer Leverkusen is for the player to stay, at least, for one more year. To play the Euros in summer 2024 as a Germany player of course, by staying in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen – and then maybe make a move later in summer 2024.
“So, this is the expectation for Florian Wirtz. But Barca, Real Madrid and also important to mention Liverpool, are monitoring the player.
“At the moment, it’s a very open race because nothing will be decided now.”
Liverpool now monitoring Wirtz
As talented youngsters go, Wirtz is certainly up there with the very best.
Before Jude Bellingham erupted onto the scene, the German was probably the most exciting prospect in the Bundesliga.
However, a serious knee injury in March 2022 rendered him out of action until the turn of the new year.
Despite this, it seems like the 19-year-old has undergone a miraculous recovery, and he is playing better than ever before.
In 13 appearances, Wirtz has amassed two goals and six assists, subsequently being ranked as Leverkusen’s second-best player in the league this term.
Hailed as ‘outstanding’ by Germany boss Hansi Flick, Wirtz is certain to cause a bidding war amongst the world’s best – and it appears Liverpool will be involved.
