Liverpool aren’t finished in the race to sign Jude Bellingham this summer and will keep pushing to get a deal done.
Yesterday brought worrying news for Reds fans, with claims surfacing that they are ‘increasingly unlikely’ to sign Bellingham. Having spent basically two years chasing the 19-year-old, this was understandably met with anger by supporters.
But today has brought some better news. As per journalist Fabrizio Romano for CaughtOffside, Liverpool haven’t gone anywhere and are still very much in the conversation.
However, it isn’t all good news. Romano claims that the Reds’ ‘ownership situation’ is causing a little bit of a problem in their pursuit of Bellingham.
“Jude Bellingham has not made a final decision yet. The situation remains open; it was not done with Liverpool in December and January despite many rumours, and it’s not off now,” said the transfer expert. “Real Madrid are pushing a lot as they really want Jude, same for Manchester City.
“Of course, Liverpool’s uncertainty in their ownership situation is not helping but the club is still there in the race.”
Bellingham keeps clubs waiting
On the whole, this is obviously a positive update from the well-connected Romano. But it’s still worth exploring what he means by ‘ownership situation’

As of last month, Liverpool’s situation is actually very clear. The Reds are no longer for sale – if they ever were. New investment is actively being sought, but that shouldn’t alter too much regarding Bellingham’s choice.
So, instead, perhaps Romano actually means purely that Liverpool’s ownership could be a problem here. Certainly in regards to the other two clubs the journalist mentions, the Reds are less inclined to spend nine-figure sums. Maybe the problem merely lies in that sense.
One thing’s for sure, we’ll be glad when this saga comes to a close. It would be brilliant if Liverpool manage to get Bellingham through the door for next season. It would be a real statement signing and one Jurgen Klopp very much needs. The Borussia Dortmund man is clearly a ‘world-class’ player.
But should he go elsewhere, Liverpool will surely have a plan, too. At this point, it would just be nice to know.
