Mohamed Salah overtook Robbie Fowler to become Liverpool’s all-time top goal-scorer in the Premier League after bagging twice in the Reds’ 7-0 demolition of Manchester United.
He was later presented with a gift by the club in the dressing room after the game, according to The Times.
Before the match, the 30-year-old trailed ‘God’ by a single goal, having scored against Wolverhampton Wanderers midweek.
However, a sensational performance saw the Red Devils crumble at Anfield – and the attacker took advantage. Not only did he score two and assist another two, he dominated all over the pitch. As a result, he broke Fowler’s record and became the club’s all-time scorer in the division.
According to a report by The Times, Salah was presented with a shirt with ‘129’ printed on the back, when he returned to the Liverpool dressing room after the final whistle had blown.
Salah breaks the record
Salah’s record on Merseyside is nothing short of outstanding.
In 291 appearances for the Reds, the ‘Egyptian king’ has incredibly amassed 178 goals and 74 assists.
As Jamie Carragher recently put it, he has been an ‘absolute revelation’ since arriving at Anfield.
He has been one of the most crucial figures in helping Liverpool to such success in recent years, having instantly become a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s XI upon his arrival.
At 30 years old, there have been suggestions in the media that it may be time for the Merseyside outfit to sell Salah on – as his value is still high at the moment.
However, as he proved yesterday, he is still a world-class player.
He remains more than capable of performing at the highest level for years to come, and he will continue to do so at Anfield.
