Liverpool could be about to target Juventus star Manuel Locatelli as they aim to reboot their midfield.
The middle of the pitch is undoubtedly the area most in need of Jurgen Klopp’s attention this summer. And to that end, Calciomercatoweb claim that Locatelli has made his way onto Liverpool’s radar.
The 25-year-old, who is described as the ‘essential of Allegri,’ would reportedly be available for as little as £31m.
Locatelli a bargain at £30m
As Liverpool scour the market to pick up players who can improve their side this off-season, no one can claim that there aren’t quality options available.
From elite signings like Jude Bellingham, to slightly under the radar ones like Khephren Thuram. There are plenty of chances for the Reds to bring in exactly what they need.
As far as we know, this is the first time Locatelli’s name has been mentioned as one of those chances. This time around, at least.
But if he really is available for just over £30m, then Liverpool should be seriously interested.
Unlike some of the other names linked with moves to Anfield, Locatelli would arrive as the finished article. With plenty of top-level experience and a seasoned Italy international, the quoted price would be a bargain.
If reports from a couple of years ago are to be believed, then the Reds are already admirers of his talents, too.
Prior to him joining Juventus in 2021, Liverpool were reportedly in the mix to sign Locatelli from Sassuolo. In the end, he moved to Turin, where he has done well in a slightly turgid team.
Manager Allegri recently labelled his No.5 as being ‘an example’ after a win over Lazio last month. Given those kinds of compliments, it’s hard to believe that he’d be let go for a similar price he was bought for 18 months ago. Let’s keep an eye on whether this one develops.
