Liverpool are hopefully in the market for a midfielder. We really hope they are. The Reds are down a key man in the middle of the park, replacing him should be a priority. According to Sky Sports Italia (via The Mail), Liverpool could sign Manuel Locatelli ahead of Juventus.
The Reds have relied on Gini Wijnaldum for the past five years.
Now the Dutchman is gone, he joined PSG on a free transfer this summer.
Nobody racked up as many minutes under Jürgen Klopp as the dynamic 30-year-old.
Whilst there is still a number of players available to take his place in the squad we can’t rely on these players to play the same amount of minutes.
The likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain keep picking up niggling injuries which could prevent them from assuming Gini’s role.
We need to sign another midfielder to make sure we aren’t left short of numbers in the middle if we’re faced with another injury crisis.
Liverpool could sign Manuel Locatelli
This summer has seen a few players persistently linked with the Reds’ midfield.
One such player plies his trade as Sassuolo in the Italian Serie A.
According to Sky Sports Italia (via The Mail), Liverpool could sign Manuel Locatelli ahead of Juventus.
The outlet has claimed that Juve is the midfielder’s preferred destination but the superclub are unable to meet Sassuolo’s £34m asking price.
As a result Liverpool could leapfrog Juve in the race for the highly rated 23-year-old.
What RTK has to say
We keep seeing conflicting reports about Liverpool and Locatelli.
We want him personally but whether Michael Edwards feels the same is another matter entirely.
At 23-years-old he’s only going to get better, £34m could prove a steal in a few years time.
However, Juventus have a lot of pull in Italy, it could be hard to nab him ahead of them.
