Liverpool transfers: 'Phenomenal' talent could be open to Anfield move

Reported Liverpool target Mason Mount would be interested in moving to a Premier League rival from Chelsea this summer.

Mount’s future has been subject to plenty of chatter over recent weeks, as his contract ticks down at Stamford Bridge. And as per a report from ESPN today, that doesn’t look like quieting any time soon. They claim that talks continue to ‘stall’ between Chelsea and Mount.

As a result, all three of Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City continue to ‘monitor’ the 24-year-old’s situation.

Right now, that situation is that Mount has less than 18 months left on his deal. It’s claimed that the England international is looking for a big pay hike at Chelsea, which has led to an ‘impasse’ in talks.

However, there is some positive news still for Blues fans. Mount reportedly isn’t pushing to leave and talks are said to be expected to continue. All hope is not lost. It’s also claimed that Liverpool and City’s interest in Mount may be ‘complicated’ by the funds set aside for their attempts to sign Jude Bellingham.

Despite this, Mount is said to be ‘open’ to the idea of joining a different English side. Should either side miss out on Bellingham, perhaps his England colleague could be an alternative.

Mount open to new Premier League experience

This is actually a really key point in this interesting transfer saga. If Mount himself is willing to leave the club he’s been at since the age of six, then there is a real chance of a move happening.

Obviously, Chelsea could still offer him what he’s looking for. Should they do that, it’s hard to see why Mount would actively choose to go elsewhere.

But by the sounds of it, his current club are simply unable or unwilling to go as high as their No.19 thinks he’s worthy of in terms of salary.

Now, if Mount was uninterested in exploring his options, he’d be forced to climb down on his demands. But with an open mind about trying a new experience, he can surely be persuaded to leave.

From a Liverpool point of view, it’s easy to see where Mount would fit in. Energetic and technically good, he’d slot in nicely to a Jurgen Klopp midfield.

Former Reds hero Adam Lallana certainly thinks so. As recently as November the Brighton man claimed that Mount would improve any team in the world. Declan Rice has also dubbed him as being ‘special’ [TalkSPORT]. If that kind of player is available and willing to listen to offers, how can Liverpool not be interested.
