Liverpool can form a fantastic midfield partnership if they sign Mason Mount from Chelsea. The Reds are reportedly looking into it.
The Guardian reported this week that Liverpool are looking into Mason Mount. The Chelsea star is out of contract in 18 months, and talks have stalled.
That has Liverpool and Juventus both considering a move. Mount, after all, could be available for a cut-price fee in 2023 if Chelsea don’t agree on a new deal. The England player currently earns around £ 80k a week, per Capology.
That presents an opportunity to Liverpool. Mount isn’t just a talented player but he’s someone who could fit perfectly into the Reds’ midfield. He’d be in that three-man setup, able to push forward with a holding player behind him.
And if that’s something Liverpool pull off, there’s a magnificent partnership waiting.
Liverpool can sign Mason Mount
Mount excels at getting forward from deep and picking the ball up in the box. He’s also a fantastic defender from the front. Opta data on Fbref has him in the top 4 per cent of midfielders for winning tackles in the attacking third.
Essentially, Mount does the things Liverpool want Harvey Elliott doing. The 19-year-old is doing them more and more this season, too, developing into a fantastic midfielder at the club.

Having the two of them together, though, could be devastating. There’s so much pressure there and so much intelligent movement that teams would struggle to cope. Both of them like drifting into space, either out wide or centrally, and both are happy to add numbers to those waiting in the box.
The fact that the two of them can also win tackles high up the pitch and press hard makes them ideal, too. Liverpool’s press hasn’t been the same this season – here would be an injection of energy at the right time.
Elliott appears to be the future of Liverpool’s midfield and he needs the right player alongside him. Mount could be that player, if the Reds can pry him away from Chelsea.
