'He would improve any team in the world': Adam Lallana raves about 23-year-old who Liverpool reportedly want

Brighton and former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has raved about reported Reds transfer target Mason Mount and his contribution to England’s opening goal against Iran.

According to The Guardian, the Anfield outfit are keeping track of the growing uncertainty surrounding the 23-year-old’s contract at Chelsea.

Taking to his World Cup column with The Times, the 34-year-old hailed praise on the Stamford Bridge youngster, implicitly claiming he would be a brilliant addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

“But if Mount takes another touch, everything slows down,” Lallana said.

“The momentum and flow within the attack would not be the same and it may not result in a goal. Of course, the header from Bellingham is superb, though I like Mount’s contribution because it shows real tactical understanding.

“That is why he is a manager’s dream. The glamorous selection by England would have been to play Phil Foden as a No 10 alongside Bukayo Saka and Sterling, but picking Mount was another of the calls Gareth Southgate got exactly right.

“For England, Mount is responsible for the pressing triggers because, firstly, he is willing to run and do the dirty side of the game. Secondly, his knowledge of when to do that earns him the implicit trust of his manager. The ability to carry out orders faithfully is vital to the slick functioning of any team.

“Sometimes I will hear comments around Mount such as, “What does he do?” Perhaps that is based on judging players solely by goals and assists. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but that is complete rubbish in my book. I think he would improve any team in the world.”

Lallana full of praise for Liverpool target Mount

Mount is currently nearing the final 18 months of his deal with Chelsea. As per The Guardian, both Liverpool and Juventus are keeping tabs on his situation.

Many fans might question what Klopp sees in the midfielder, but as Lallana says, he could add a lot to any team in the world.

For the Reds, the 23-year-old would slot straight into the starting XI. Fabinho would keep his role as the side’s sole defensive midfielder, whilst Thiago would remain as a creative playmaker, creating chances out of nothing with his pin-point pass accuracy.

Here, Mount would fit right in as Klopp’s third midfielder. Playing as a number eight, he would be free to exploit the space between the opposition defence and midfield.

Consequently, he would link-up play with the attack, with the ability to set passes for Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez to run onto.

Additionally, the Chelsea star is also a great striker of the ball. Adding goals to the Liverpool midfield, Klopp would have a true number eight in his side.

Therefore, if fresh developments fail to emerge regarding his contract at Stamford Bridge, there is no reason the Merseyside club should not go all in for him. Possibly when the transfer window opens, but especially in the summer.
