Arsenal will return to try and sign reported Liverpool transfer target Moises Caicedo at the end of the season.
The Gunners pushed hard to sign Caicedo from Brighton in the last days of the January transfer window. But in the end, the Seagulls held firm – no sale.
Now, as per Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth via Football Daily, Arsenal, and perhaps Chelsea, are set to push again for the Liverpool target this summer.
“I’m told that whatever Arsenal or for that matter Chelsea bid, Brighton were not going to sell Moises Caicedo in this transfer window,” explained Sheth.
“This will then fast forward into the summer – if he doesn’t sign a new contract – we’re going to have another saga again. Caicedo, Rice, Arsenal in for both of those we think in the summer.”
The journalist doesn’t mention Liverpool in amongst their Premier League rivals. But given the Reds’ historical interest in Caicedo, they’ll surely be back for him, too.
Liverpool let off the hook with Caicedo
Yesterday was a difficult one for Liverpool fans to stomach. In desperate need of a midfield addition, the club instead chose to do absolutely nothing to strengthen the squad.
Further to that, former target Enzo Fernandez was also confirmed to be on his way to Chelsea. Fernandez at one time looked like being a future Liverpool player. Chelsea put any lingering hopes that that might still be the case to bed by securing a record deal with Benfica.
So, it would have been even more depressing had Caicedo ended up getting his move as well.
The Ecuadorian was clearly desperate to get himself out of Brighton before yesterday’s deadline. Had he been granted his wish, Liverpool would have seen another option crossed off their shortlist. With Brighton rejecting bids of a reported £60m though, they’ve been given a reprieve.
It seems virtually certain that Caicedo will finally get his move in the summer. There have also been suggestions that his price could be significantly less than it was this winter.
As a result, Liverpool should certainly be throwing their hat in the ring. The Reds’ top target is Jude Bellingham, the whole world knows that. But having failed to get any new bodies through the door mid-season, they’re going to need more than Bellingham this summer. Caciedo has been on the table before, he has to be back on it again.
