Liverpol have stepped-up their efforts to sign Enzo Fernández, according to reports. They want him to follow Cody Gakpo to Anfield.
This comes from O Jogo in Portugal. They claim that there is now more pressure on Benfica to sell Enzo Fernández in January, with that pressure coming from the Premier League.
Two clubs, in particular, lead the charge – Liverpool and Manchester United. Each want Enzo in January and it’s become a case of who can front the money.
Benfica recently turned down an offer of £80m from an unnamed club, to give an idea of what it will take. Enzo’s World Cup displays saw his value skyrocket and there’s little suggestion that the Portuguese giants even want to sell this winter.
But the right offer would force their hand. The question now is whether Liverpool – or United – can make it.

Cody Gakpo is almost certainly on his way, of course, so Liverpool are currently looking to do business. Whether they’re happy to pay both transfer fees is another question, though.
And Enzo’s would be massive. He’s just won the World Cup’s Best Young Player award, as well as the big trophy itself. That was coming off a half-season where he looked like one of Europe’s best midfielders, too.
The push to sign Gakpo was forced by a need to sign a left-sided forward. Luis Díaz is out until March, with Diogo Jota battling injury, too.
So is a midfielder as important? Many would say ‘yes’ and that it shouldn’t wait until the summer. Liverpool have looked weak and short of elite options there all season. Particularly with both Jordan Henderson and Thiago having questionable fitness records.
We’d like to see Liverpool pay the money to get Enzo now, then. But of course we would – he’s a fantastic player and would be one of the most exciting signings in recent years.
