Barcelona are actively working on an agreement to sign reported Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat today.
Amrabat has been heavily linked with a move away from Fiorentina after a stellar display at last year’s World Cup. And now, as per journalist Gerard Romero via Jijantes FC on Twitter, Barcelona are making a late play for him.
Romero claims that the Spanish giants will look to tie up a loan deal for the 26-year-old on deadline day. The loan would reportedly include a mandatory buy option at the end of the season.
Having been so widely reported to be on the market this winter, let’s see if Amrabat ends up getting his move.
Liverpool set to miss out on Amrabat
Amrabat had looked to be a good option for Liverpool as they look to strengthen their midfield mid-season.

A brilliant World Cup for Morocco highlighted just what he can bring to the table. He was labelled as being ‘exceptional’ by pundit Jamie O’Hara. That wasn’t too wide of the mark, either. Strong in the tackle and able to cover ground like not many can, the Fiorentina man would have added much-needed legs to the Reds midfield.
And for a while, it looked like that might be enough persuade Liverpool into a January move. Jurgen Klopp was even reported to have met with Amarabat and his representatives over a transfer.
But in the end, the interest in their player appeared to spook Fiorentina. After a £35m price-tag was slapped on him, Liverpool’s motivation to pursue a deal seemed to wane.
As a result, we can effectively rule the Reds out of a last-minute auction for Amrabat.
It would sting a little to see him rock up at the Camp Nou on a loan move, though. Although the permanent valuation is a little high, if he’s available temporarily, Amrabat could be just what Liverpool need right now. Another one bites the dust.
