Liverpool can finally give up on signing Konrad Laimer as he’s signed a contract elsewhere, says Fabrizio Romano. The midfielder had openly said he’s a fan.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano. He wrote on Twitter that Konrad Laimer has finally signed his contract with Bayern Munich.
It’s a deal that had been reported for a while, and that Laimer was keen on leaving RB Leipzig for Bayern. That’s now gone through, it seems.
“Understand Konrad Laimer has finally signed his contract as new FC Bayern player starting from July 1,” said Romano. “Deal done months ago and it’s now also sealed.
“Official statement will be very soon, probably already this month.”
Konrad Laimer won’t join Liverpool
Liverpool were reportedly the other team hoping to sign Laimer. Christian Falk reported as much, claiming there were talks between the Reds and the player.
Bild claimed it was down to the pair and Liverpool’s hopes looked good once Laimer openly admitted to being a fan. It was also a move that made complete sense to us.
Laimer is one of Europe’s best pressing midfielders – he might outright be the best. You can describe him as a player with ‘crazy’ work-rate, too – a hallmark of Liverpool’s midfield.
That’s exactly what Liverpool need as they try to rejuvenate their midfield. Not only that but Laimer was available for free. It does feel like an opportunity missed.
After all, there simply isn’t another player available like this. Any similar signing would cost an awful lot of money and, quite honestly, not deliver the same kind of quality.
Bayern are getting a fantastic player in Laimer. The deal is a steal and one Liverpool will now have to forget about. The best way of possibly doing that is by signing Jude Bellingham in the summer – but there’s no doubt that Laimer would have been the perfect complementary signing.
