Teun Koopmeiners has claimed that he’s flattered by reports that Liverpool are interested in signing him.
The 24-year-old has become the latest midfielder to be linked with a move to Anfield during this month’s transfer window. And as per journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Koopmeiners has now reacted to the rumours.
“I saw the links and stories about Liverpool — nice to see that but I’m 100% focused on Atalanta. I’m so happy to play here,” said the Netherlands international.
Not exactly a dismissal from Koopmeiners. But as an important player for his current club, it isn’t going to be easy to prise him away.
Clock ticking for Liverpool
Koopemeiners was in fine form for Atalanta last night, pummelling in an absolute howitzer against Bologna.
With Liverpool lacking goals from midfield for a while now, it was a window into what the £35m-rated player can do.
Unfortunately, the game also brought a little bad news for Reds fans. Following his team’s 2-1 win, Atalanta sporting director Tony D’Amico told Sky Italia that rumours of talks beginning with Liverpool for Koopmeiners were ‘not true.’
So, it looks as though Liverpool are going to have to put in a fair bit of legwork if they want to get their man this month.

Realistically, time is already running out on that front. 10 days into the window, the Reds are still yet to be anywhere close to signing a midfielder.
True, there are still a good three weeks left to do business, but Liverpool need a body through the door ASAP. If they hang on until the end of the month, it will be mid February or later by the time a new player is up to speed.
Liverpool fans were hoping that January would bring their labouring midfield relief and reinforcement. Instead, it looks as though they’ll have to make do until the end of the season.
Still, Koopmeiners sounds game for a move to Anfield. If Liverpool can get Atalanta to the table in the coming days, perhaps they can still salvage something.
