Atalanta sporting director Tony D’Amico has reacted to claims that Liverpool want Teun Koopmeiners. Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a fan.
There have been several reports recently that Liverpool want Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta. The Dutchman is enjoying a fantastic time in Italy and the Reds seem to view him as an ideal signing.
Tutto Atalanta are one of those making the claim. They believe that Jurgen Klopp likes the player and that there has been contact between Liverpool and the player’s agents. That interest is apparently ‘flattering’ to both player and club.
But is it legitimate? Sky Italia asked Atalanta sporting director Tony D’Amico about the reports ahead of a meeting with Bologna tonight.
“There’s nothing concrete, it’s not true,” he said, as relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb. “Like [Marco] Sportiello, he is an Atalanta player.

“On the one hand it’s nice because it means we have good players, but perhaps it’s right to focus on the match [against Bologna].”
And for what it’s worth, Koopmeiners was also asked about the reports. He gave about as cliché an answer as a football can give, however.
“I’m playing for Atalanta, I’m very happy here and I’m only thinking about this,” he said, again per TMW. “We hope to come out of Bologna with three points”.
Liverpool want Teun Koopmeiners
The Tutto Atalanta report claims Koopmeiners would cost around £35m. It doesn’t sound as though Liverpool are close to offering that, however, if they haven’t made any real contact with the Italians.

But maybe that will change after Monday night. Koopmeiners went on to score a magnificent goal against Bologna, which you can see here. It’s exactly the kind of goal Liverpool lack from their current midfield options – and exactly the quality you’d want for £35m.
So while the phone might be quiet right now, Liverpool only got another reason to step up their interest.
