Midlands local media were amazed by reported Liverpool target Matheus Nunes’ display for Wolves last night.
Nunes played the full 90 minutes as Wolves claimed a valuable point away to rivals Aston Villa. And, according to Birmingham Live, the Portugal international was the ‘best player on the pitch.’
His performance rated as an eight point five out of ten, Nunes is said to have ‘controlled the tempo’ for his team.
Liverpool are said to be hot on the 24-year-old’s heels as they attempt to upgrade their midfield. Last night’s performance is claimed to have shown exactly why he’s so sought after.

Nunes getting closer to Liverpool?
Talk over a prospective Liverpool move for Nunes has really ramped up over the course of this week.
The Brazilian-born midfielder has been on Liverpool’s radar for a while now, but the Reds finally look ready to make their move.
Had they plumped to take Nunes from Sporting Lisbon last summer, they’d have paid around £38m for him.
Now, it looks as though they’ll have to pay closer to £50m instead.

That would look like a little bit of a faux-paus on Liverpool’s part. On the other hand though, if his move to Wolves has allowed him to get used to the Premier League in the manner of last night’s display, maybe it’s worth it.
The division can be notoriously difficult to get used to for those arriving in it for the first time.
As a result, perhaps it’s wise that Liverpool let Nunes move elsewhere first, to give him chance to get used to the intensity.
In an underperforming Wolves side, Nunes has still been able to turn in good performances with consistency. Turn in another one at Anfield on Saturday, and maybe Liverpool will finally pull the trigger on a deal
