Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders has raved about Enzo Fernández and Rodrigo De Paul. Both players have previously been linked with the Reds.
Pep Lijnders held Liverpool’s pre-match press conference on Wednesday and, naturally, he talked about the World Cup. Who were his favourite team, tactically? Well, Argentina, of course.
And that led to some interesting comments on two players previously linked with Liverpool. Lijnders raved about two Argentina heroes – and two we believe could fit in at Anfield.

“What I like about Argentina is that they play to their strengths,” said Lijnders. “Take, for example, Rodrigo De Paul, whose like a sweeper behind [Lionel] Messi! Messi’s on the inside? He goes to the outside. Messi’s on the outside? He goes to the inside. They play to their strengths.
“Enzo [Fernández] and [Alexis] Mac Allister, who they manage midfield together with Rodrigo – but especially these two. How they balance each other.
“Messi, not to talk about! I’ve said before, to witness [him] from five meters, it’s something I’ve never seen before. The speed, and he was decisive. He was the start of many attacks, with Enzo, of course.”
Enzo Fernández and Rodrigo De Paul
Enzo and De Paul are interesting players for Lijnders to bring up. The former, of course, has been consistently linked with Liverpool. O Jogo wrote just yesterday that the Reds are first in line for the 21-year-old Benfica star.
And that shouldn’t surprise anyone, either. Enzo was magnificent at the World Cup, earning the Young Player of the Tournament award and thriving in the final.

As for De Paul, Liverpool were linked back in 2021 before his move to Atletico Madrid. That’s a move that hasn’t worked out, however, and Cadena SER claim he’s on the transfer list for January.
We’ve already said the Reds should reignite their interest after De Paul’s fantastic World Cup. Judging by Lijnders’ comments, it doesn’t sound too far-fetched.
