Liverpool shouldn’t waste a second chance to sign Rodrigo De Paul. The player is now a World Cup winner with Argentina.
Liverpool will have had eyes on the World Cup final on Sunday, along with everyone else in football. The Reds had a couple of particular reasons to do so, though.
Firstly, Ibrahima Konaté featured, getting eight minutes from the bench in extra-time. Enzo Fernández, supposedly a target for Liverpool, also played – and was magnificent.

But we think Liverpool may have been watching for another player – Rodrigo De Paul. They may just have a second chance to get him, after all.
Liverpool have a chance to sign Rodrigo De Paul
Cadena SER in Spain claims Atletico Madrid will look to sell De Paul in 2023. He hasn’t quite worked out under Diego Simeone and the club want to move in a different direction.
Of course, that news came before De Paul won the World Cup. While it may not change Atletico’s plans, it certainly makes him a more desirable player and that includes for Liverpool.
Rewind to 2021 and De Paul was a dominant player for Udinese in Serie A. Messaggero Veneto claimed that Liverpool wanted him at the time, though he ultimately moved to Madrid.
Well, with De Paul available again, the Reds should reignite that interest. We already thought he’d be a good fit for the current side and his performances at the World Cup solidified that.

De Paul played the role of an all-action attacking midfielder. He was putting in all the necessary fight through midfield, pressing like mad and disrupting play. At the same time, he’d constantly move off the ball and link play wonderfully well.
That’s the kind of midfielder Jurgen Klopp loves. Liverpool don’t typically use specialists in midfield, after all, and instead like those who can gel the team together by doing a bit of everything. Players who have the energy to dominate with pressing and the technique to keep the ball under pressure.
De Paul is exactly that and has now proved that he can do it at the absolute highest level. If he’s truly available again – and as Liverpool search for new midfielders – it’s a chance the Reds shouldn’t miss again.
