Liverpool may have a way to work a deal for Matheus Cunha this summer. It comes after interest in Marko Grujic.
It seems Liverpool must sell players in order to buy new ones. That’s according to the Athletic who claim the Reds spent most of their budget on Ibrahima Konate.
That makes things slightly difficult, of course. Liverpool could really use a midfielder to replace Gini Wijnaldum, while the attack needs fresh blood.
One player Liverpool could sell, of course, is Marko Grujic. The Serbian spent last season with FC Porto – the latest in a long line of loans.
Before that was two successful years with Hertha BSC. Successful enough, in fact, that the club want him permanently.

Berliner Kurier says Hertha will move this summer. They believe he could join for around £12m – something that suits all parties.
But we think Liverpool could use this interest to work a nice little deal of their own.
Matheus Cunha to Liverpool?
We think Liverpool should look at Matheus Cunha, a player who could be about to explode into a fantastic talent. He’s currently at Hertha, helping them stave off relegation last season.
And he could be on the market as it is. Kicker claims Hertha would sell for around £30m, with director Fredi Bobic admitting the player might leave.
“Whether he will play the future with us, we’ll have to see,” he said, per Goal. “I can’t say right now whether he’s happy that he wants to stay here.”
Cunha had a very decent season for a struggling side. He bagged seven Bundesliga goals and added four assists.
The latter figure is particularly notable as Cunha wasn’t previously a very creative player – he only had one the previous campaign.
But the Brazilian created an average of 1.8 chances per game over the course of the season. That’s way up on the 0.6 per game across 2019/20.
Cunha is getting better then and he’s still only 22. This is a player who, in the right environment, could kick on to become very special. Liverpool can offer him that environment, with a knack for moving players up a level or two under Jurgen Klopp.
And Grujic could help get Hertha to the table for a decent price. After all, that Berliner Kurier article mentions FC Porto want the Serbian, too.
Guaranteeing Grujic to Hertha could shave off quite a few million from that Cunha price, then. And as Liverpool don’t have too much to spend, that could prove a fantastic deal.
