Liverpool are interested in making a move for Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
That’s according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg. Posting on Twitter, Plettenburg claimed that Amrabat is ‘open’ to leaving Fiorentina over the coming months.
Furthermore, the journalist namechecked Liverpool as one of the sides ‘especially’ interested in the 26-year-old. The Reds are said to be looking at Amrabat alongside Jude Bellingham and Moises Caicedo.
It seems Liverpool will have to do battle with a number of rivals, though. Plettenburg claims that ‘many’ clubs from the Premier League are also keen on signing the Morocco international.
Finally, the fee to prise Amrabat away from Florence will reportedly be over £26m.
Liverpool looking for smart move in the market
This news is likely to be greeted by an underwhelming reaction from Liverpool fans. As they hold their collective breath over a move for Bellingham, Amrabat hardly seems like a fitting alternative.
However, it should actually be an exciting update from the reliable Plettenburg.
No, Amrabat isn’t Bellingham. In fact, it’s unlikely that he’d be brought in as a starter for Liverpool. But, due to the sheer number of upgrades needed in the midfield over the next two windows, he’d be a great little signing.
Combative and press resistant, the former Feyenoord midfielder looks like a good fit for Liverpool.

One downside is that he hasn’t played top-level football throughout his career. He has actually played in the Champions League previously though – with Feyenoord in 2017/18 and Club Brugge in 2018/19.
Since moving to Fiorentina in 2020, he has become a key part of the team.
He has also flourished on the international stage. Born in Holland, he already has 42 caps for Morocco. Amrabat has been one of the main reasons the Atlas Lions managed to top a difficult group containing Belgium and Croatia at the World Cup.
So, given the relatively cheap fee, there wouldn’t be too many downsides to this transfer. It seems as though he’s willing and available for a move, so let’s see where this one goes.
