Liverpool will battle Chelsea for the signing of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim that the Reds have the 21-year-old ‘on their radar’. Unfortunately, so do Chelsea, and the two teams look set to go head-to-head to sign the Ecuadorian.

Brighton are said to have ‘no intention’ of selling Caicedo in the January transfer window, though. In fact, the Premier League club are reportedly ‘under no pressure to sell’ at all. The player still has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal.

But that isn’t claimed to be putting off Liverpool. The Reds, and Chelsea, are said to have been watching on as the young midfielder impressed with Ecuador during the World Cup. Something’s got to give.

Caicedo earns Pedri stamp of approval

Caicedo is one of the names well in the mix for Liverpool’s midfield shake-up of 2023. And with good reason too.

Anyone who watched the South American at the World Cup over the last few weeks can’t have failed to be impressed by him. His maturity and calmness on the ball really make him stand out.

One famous onlooker who has been taking notes is Barcelona’s Pedri.

The 20-year-old was asked to name a player who’d impressed him during the early part of the tournament on YouTube channel xBuyer. Somewhat surprisingly, Pedri selected the Brighton man.

“The one I’ve seen who has most surprised me was the one from Ecuador; Moises Caicedo,” said the young Spaniard. “He’s very good. He’s top. I like him a lot.”

If he’s good enough for a player with the burgeoning talents of Pedri, then he’ll do for us.

One thing to be wary of though, is Brighton’s wiliness in the transfer market. Quite as they should, they very much do business on their terms.

They tend to hold out for big, big fees for their players and won’t budge until they’ve got them. As a result, Liverpool might be better off dealing with more amenable sellers, like Benfica or Borussia Dortmund. You know who we’re talking about. Still, if Brighton will budge, Moises would look good in red.
