Fiorentina are set to trigger a contract extension for reported Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat.
That’s according to Corriere Fiorentino, who claim that midfielder’s deal will be extended from 2024 to 2025.
This is reportedly in direct response to interest from the likes of Liverpool, who have targeted the 26-year-old. Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also said to be circling Amrabat, after a brilliant World Cup.
However, Fiorentina are claimed to be ready to play their trump card. With just 18-months to go on his current deal, Amrabat could, in theory, command a relatively low fee.

Should the Italian side tack another 12 months onto that, they are only adding to his now considerable value.
There is some relatively good news for Liverpool here, though. That’s because, despite the extension, it will still reportedly be ‘not easy’ for Fiorentina to keep hold of Amrabat.
Fiorentina only delaying the inevitable
This had always been on the cards for Amrabat. His contract situation has been well reported previously. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to Liverpool that his club will trigger the new deal.
After the World Cup that the Moroccan has had, why wouldn’t they? Amrabat has been one of the standout players for a overperforming Morocco team who finished fourth at the tournament.

Perhaps unknown to plenty of English fans prior to the World Cup, he’s performed well with the spotlight on him. TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara claimed Amrabat has been ‘exceptional’ for his country, placing him in his Team of the Tournament.
It remains to be seen whether the former Feyenoord man takes his place in the official version of that XI. But whether he does or not, his reputation has certainly been enhanced hugely. Right now, he could potentially have his pick of clubs to join.
And as per journalist Gianluca Di Marzio via Soccer News, his choice would be Liverpool. Di Marzio goes as far as saying that Amrabat and his agent will ‘really push’ for a ‘dream’ move to Anfield.
So, regardless of a contract extension, you’d expect that Amrabat will leave Florence some time soon. It seems that his preferred destination would be Liverpool, too. The new deal may make him slightly pricier than previously expected, but he also looks to be worth it.
