Reds midfielder Curtis Jones is still yet to play a part in Liverpool’s first-team training out in Dubai, according to the Liverpool Echo.
On Wednesday, the 21-year-old was seen away from the group. Instead, he took part in a lighter session with Dr David Rydings, the club’s rehabilitation fitness coach. He was pictured carrying out various exercises whilst wearing running shoes.
Now, the Echo claim that the youngster is still yet to feature in one of Jurgen Klopp’s training sessions out in the United Arab Emirates; following his failure to play a part in the Dubai Super Cup defeat to Lyon on Sunday.
The Merseyside outfit are yet to confirm the reason for Jones’ absence.
Therefore, an update is only expected when the Reds play AC Milan on Friday, when the match-day squad is announced.
Jones hasn’t been spotted in training
This is a worrying sign for the youngster, as he had only just made his way back to fitness.
Whilst playing against Manchester City in the Community Shield earlier this season, Jones picked up a bone injury.
Following a short period on the side-lines, he returned for the clash against Newcastle United at the end of August. However, he was subsequently ruled out until mid-October with the same problem.
“I was out for 10 weeks,” Jones told reporters in October.
“It was a stress response. It was basically swelling in the bone. But if you carry on with it, it can go to a fracture and then a break.”
With Liverpool often short of options in the middle of the park, this will come as a big blow for Klopp.
The manager has hailed the 21-year-old’s praises, having claimed he is an ‘incredible’ player.
Expecting him to feature more regularly in the second half of the campaign, the Reds will now need to look elsewhere for a skilful playmaker to come into the midfield.
