Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was absent from full team training out in Dubai earlier today.

As per the Liverpool Echo, the 21-year-old was not involved with the squad during Wednesday’s practice session.

Instead, he trained separately away from the main group.

The Reds have travelled to the United Arab Emirates to take part in the Dubai Super Cup, with upcoming fixtures against Lyon and AC Milan.

Both Naby Keita and Luis Diaz returned to full team training, having suffered from long-term injuries in August and October respectively.

However, Jones was an unexplained absence, as he was spotted away from the rest of the team. He took part in a lighter session with Dr David Rydings, the club’s rehabilitation fitness coach. He was pictured carrying out running exercises whilst wearing running shoes.

The midfielder was also not shown taking part in any of the team sessions on Monday.

The 21-year-old has endured a tough season thus far, having missed the vast majority of the Premier League campaign with a bone injury.

The Scouser picked up the issue against Manchester City in the Community Shield. He then returned for the clash against Newcastle United at the end of August, before then being ruled out until mid-October with the same problem.

“I was out for 10 weeks,” Jones told reporters in October.

“It was a stress response. It was basically swelling in the bone. But if you carry on with it, it can go to a fracture and then a break.”

Hailed by Jurgen Klopp as ‘incredible’, this will sure come as a blow to his plans. If this turns out to be more serious than it initially looks, we could see the club dip into the transfer market in January.
