The Argentinian press were in awe of reported Liverpool target Enzo Fernandez‘s display against Croatia last night.
Fernandez played the full 90 minutes as Argentina strolled into the World Cup Final, beating their opponents 3-0. And as per Ole, the 21-year-old was one of the best players in the pitch.
They claim that what really stood out was Enzo’s ability to adapt to his team’s pressing of the ball. He is also commended for setting up chances for his teammates.
In fact, Ole go as far as calling Fernandez ‘a luxury that most teams in the world can’t afford.’ That’s owing to his ability to ‘remove, distribute and play’ from midfield.
The Liverpool target is also hailed as being one of the top five performers for the finalists during the whole World Cup.
Having began the tournament from the bench, Fernandez is now seemingly one of the first names on the team sheet. Bring him to Liverpool, Jurgen!
Fernandez shows the world his quality
It has been quite the turnaround for Fernandez and his national team. The young midfielder wasn’t in Lionel Scaloni’s first XI for the opening two games in Qatar.
One of those – the 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia – suggested that Lionel Messi and co would fall short for the big prize once more.
But they’ve now won five on the spin, albeit needing penalties to get past Virgil van Dijk and the Netherlands. Enzo has started the last four, missing just 21 minutes of action – going the full distance in the last three matches.
It isn’t these performances that have alerted Liverpool to his talents, though. The Reds have been heavily linked with another raid on Benfica since as far back as August.
But during the World Cup, the murmurings that Fernandez will soon be playing his football at Anfield have grown louder. Unfortunately, so too has the interest from elsewhere – most notably from Real Madrid.
It looks inevitable that, barring injury, Fernandez will be a key player for Argentina in Sunday’s final. To play in such an occasion at just twenty-one, you have to be something special. Clearly, Liverpool have already known that for a fair few months.
