Harry Kane discussed Jordan Henderson on Monday after the Liverpool captain scored for England against Senegal. He can’t say enough positive things.
Jordan Henderson started again for England on Monday in a World Cup last 16 game. Few would have had him down as the player to open the scoring, though.
Henderson got on the end of Jude Bellingham’s cut-back to slot home, with what was the biggest goal of his career. That was just one part of the Liverpool captain’s performance, though. He was everywhere, lifting the side and forcing them forward.
That’s not a surprise to anyone who watches the Reds, of course, but Henderson hasn’t really had the same opportunities with England. The Three Lions’ captain Harry Kane, though, made it very clear on Monday that Henderson improves the team enormously.
“I’ve always said he’s one of the best leaders I’ve played with,” he told Lions’ Den on YouTube. “He’s vocal, he pushes players to the max and that’s why he’s been great in the games he’s played. Outstanding with the ball, outstanding without the ball, pushing everyone.
“I feel like the way we’ve been pressing, it’s good to hear him behind me, pushing me.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, what you’ve done – Hendo will keep pushing you. And as you saw yesterday, it was an amazing performance by him. Great to see him score and a lot of the other great stuff was down to his role in the team.”
Harry Kane applauds Jordan Henderson
We’ll never tire of hearing players rave about Henderson. No player has had more unjustified stick, certainly for Liverpool.

There’s a reason why, after all, Jurgen Klopp has stuck with him religiously over the last seven years. Henderson improves the team and raises the standards. His winning record under the German is unbelievable and there was a period of two years where he lost just twice in the Premier League as a starting midfielder.
Now he’s taking those standards to the World Cup and England are better for it.
