Reported Liverpool transfer target Mason Mount has rejected Chelsea’s latest contract offer.
That’s according to The Daily Mail, who claim that Mount has turned down an offer worth around £200k-a-week. The 23-year-old is reportedly looking for closer to the £300k-a-week mark.
Mount is said to have rejected the offer prior to flying out for the ongoing World Cup with England. Chelsea will reportedly put negotiations on-hold as the tournament continues.
However, it’s claimed that there is ‘unlikely’ to be a swift resolution when the talks re-commence. With Liverpool and Juventus said to be circling, Chelsea and Mount reportedly remain ‘a long way apart.’

No chance Liverpool bow to Mount demands
On the one hand, this could be seen as good news for Liverpool’s interest in Mount. Any move for the England man would only come about if he’s entering the final months of a deal in West London.
Obviously, that won’t happen if he pens an extension to his time at Chelsea.
But on the other, there’s simply absolutely no way that Liverpool will match these kinds of figures. No way at all.
If the Reds hierarchy were troubled by offering £350k-a-week to Mohamed Salah, what would their answer be to Mount’s request?

In fact, it feels highly unlikely that Liverpool would even go as high as £200k-a-week. And to be honest, nor should they.
Mount is a good player, who has recently been labelled ‘incredible’ by Chelsea and England teammate Raheem Sterling.
But he isn’t a special player, he isn’t a regular match-winner. He could perhaps fit in beautifully in Jurgen Klopp’s system, but so could a number of other players who wouldn’t be asking for the earth in wages.
So, unless Mount is willing to significantly lower his demands, you can’t imagine Liverpool will be touching him. By the sounds of it, neither will Chelsea. Maybe the Portsmouth native should start looking for flats in Turin…
