Jordan Henderson says Luis Díaz was impressive from his very first training session at Liverpool. The captain was clearly surprised.
One question that came up was about the player who impressed him most after they joined Liverpool. Henderson points out that it’s a tough one to answer – just about everyone has been impressive.
The most recent one, though? He had a certain answer for that.
“The most recent one I’ll give you because it’s more fresh in my mind would probably be Luis Díaz,” said Henderson. “How he adapted so quickly to the way we want to play, the speed of the Premier League – everything like that, that people talk about when new signings come from abroad.
“He really impressed us straight away in the first session that I saw him in training.”
Luis Díaz impresses Jordan Henderson
We wish we could go back and see Díaz’s first training sessions because everyone raves about them. Not that it should be any surprise – there’s a reason he immediately broke into the starting XI.
But just about everybody at Liverpool has talked about the remarkable speed with which he adapted. Jurgen Klopp was telling a press conference within weeks that he’d never seen anything like it, in fact.
Díaz has certainly been a revelation since his arrival. He’s made the left flank his own, delivering exactly what Liverpool have wanted. We couldn’t possibly imagine a better replacement for Sadio Mané out there – and that was clear within a couple of months.
We can’t wait to see what Díaz can do once he’s back, then. He hasn’t even passed the one-year mark at Anfield and there’s a lot more to come.
