Jurgen Klopp says he’s never seen someone react to a training exercise as Luis Diaz did with Liverpool this week. The Colombian’s Anfield career is underway.

Jurgen Klopp finally got a good look at Luis Diaz in training, with the Colombian having moved to Liverpool a little over a week ago. Though, he also got to see what Diaz could do last Sunday.

The winger made his Liverpool debut, coming on as a second-half substitute vs Cardiff City. Diaz impressed, too, as his work rate and close control created a goal for Takumi Minamino. It’s one that will have thrilled everyone on the Liverpool coaching staff.

But it’s still early days, of course. Klopp will initially make his judgements in training and by the sound of it, things are going well. Very well, in fact.

“Yesterday, a normal session, he enjoyed a lot,” Klopp told a Wednesday press conference. “I’m not sure if you’ve seen some pictures of our training session. We started with a bit of a long ‘rondo’ – I’m not sure I’ve seen a player smiling that constantly during a rondo!

“So he enjoyed it. The rest of the session as well, so all good.”

Luis Diaz impresses in Liverpool training

This is exactly what you want to hear. Diaz appears to be fitting in perfectly from the get-go, keeping up with the notoriously tough work-rate at Liverpool.

Smiling during a rondo is pretty next-level, though. Klopp later explained how the club does makes sure the right players are signed and they’ve certainly nailed it with Diaz’s attitude.

We’re very excited about his prospects at the club, with all the hype around him entirely justified. It won’t be talent that stops him from becoming a star at Anfield and it certainly won’t be a lack of effort, either.

Liverpool might have a star here.
