‘He won’t be going’: FSG may stop Liverpool from signing ‘world-class’ player – journalist

Liverpool won’t be breaking the bank to sign Jude Bellingham while FSG still own the football club.

That’s according to journalist Graeme Bailey. Liverpool have been endlessly linked with a move for Bellingham over the last 18 months. But whilst speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast for 90min, Bailey said the deal may never actually materialise.

“I’m erring towards I think he [Bellingham] might stay another year, as it stands now,” said the journalist.

“Obviously, that extra year is a good thing for Liverpool. Because it gives FSG a chance to sell the club and then the new owners probably will pay for Bellingham.

“If when Jude Bellingham moves, FSG own Liverpool, he won’t be going to Liverpool. Because they will not pay the money it takes to get him. So, if he stays another year, they’re one of the teams who could benefit from that.”

FSG face day of transfer reckoning

This is something that is no doubt worrying Liverpool supporters the world over. With Bellingham’s price said to be in excess of £100m, will FSG stump up the cash?

Even before the news came out that the owners are willing to sell the club, there was major doubt about that.

Now that they’re actively looking to move on, they’re perhaps even less likely to pump money into the playing squad.

However, this reportedly won’t be the case. FSG are said to be prepared to back Jurgen Klopp in the transfer market for as long as they’re at the club.

Just how prepared they are, well, the Bellingham saga will be a good litmus test for that.

Reading between the lines, it you’d have to assume that Liverpool are ready to break their transfer record for Bellingham at the very least.

The interest is there, that’s been confirmed by pretty much every source out there. His price has been relatively clear throughout the last year or so. There’s surely no way that Liverpool get this far into their interest without having a figure, and a pretty big one, in mind.

Liverpool fans will be wary, though. Not used to shelling out big fees on players, it would be bit of a departure from their current owner’s playbook. But if they want Bellingham – and they do – they going to have to change that.
