Owen Hargreaves compares Jude Bellingham to Steven Gerrard as he raves about the youngster’s ability on BT Sport. Liverpool reportedly want to sign him.
Jude Bellingham managed to make headlines again on Wednesday evening as he put in a fine display against Manchester City. The Englishman scored the opener for Borussia Dortmund but his side couldn’t hold on as ex-teammate Erling Haaland eventually found a winner.
But once again, Bellingham proved that he’s one of the brightest prospects on the planet. Already capable of delivering at the top level, there’s seemingly nothing he can’t do. That’s certainly the opinion of Owen Hargreaves.
Hargreaves raved about Bellingham on BT Sport after the game, including a comparison to Steven Gerrard.
“Jude can do everything,” said Hargreaves. “Be physical like Stevie G, he can be aggressive, can play passes over the top, run beyond you, dribble – that’s the type of player you’ve got to worry about because they can do everything.”
It’s no wonder, then, that Liverpool want him.

Funnily enough, Bellingham sees a bit of Gerrard in himself. He was asked about his ‘ultimate shirt swap’ in a video for the FA a little over a year ago and picked the Liverpool legend.
“Stevie G – easily, to be fair,” said Bellingham. “In fact, no it’s not easy. I think him or [Wayne] Rooney.
“Definitely close but I think them two by quite a way.
“I think I’d go Gerrard, though. Just because, you know, the no.8, similar position to me. So yeah, I’d probably go with him.”
All suggestions are that Liverpool want Bellingham to follow in Gerrard’s footsteps at Anfield. In fact, the Telegraph wrote today that the Reds lead the race for the midfielder. He’s expected to leave Borussia Dortmund in 2023.
And who knows? Maybe that no.8 shirt is waiting for him.
