Aston Villa could be about to receive a bid from Liverpool for their Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz.

That’s according to Sky Sports. They report that one of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are ‘set’ to make an offer for Luiz today.

The four clubs are all said to have been ‘tracking’ the 24-year-old. According to Sky, the offer will reportedly be of around £20m.

It’s claimed that Luiz, who has one year left on his contract, is ‘keen’ to play in the Champions League.

Luiz heading to Anfield?

Rumours of Liverpool’s interest in Luiz started to filter through from Brazil on Tuesday night.

As The Reds desperately scrabble around for a new midfielder on deadline day, the Villa man now seems like the most realistic option.

The need for fresh blood was heightened once more after Liverpool’s dramatic late win over Newcastle United. Not only was the display once again uninspired and poor for large parts, but Jordan Henderson also picked up a hamstring injury.

The severity of Henderson’s injury is yet to be determined. But at the moment it would seem unlikely that he’d be involved this weekend against Everton.

That would leave Jurgen Klopp with just Fabinho, Harvey Elliott, James Milner and Fabio Carvalho as options. Curtis Jones was back on the bench last night but time will tell whether he’s ready for selection or not.

It would pretty galling for Liverpool to sit on their hands today. They simply have to do everything they can to get a new face in.

Luiz wouldn’t have been many people’s choice at the start of the window, but there would be plenty of upsides to a transfer.

At twenty-four, he’s still got room to grow. He has plenty of Premier League experience and can operate in a number of midfield roles. He was also labelled as being ‘strong’ and ‘clever with the ball’ by Pep Guardiola last year. For £20m, it’s surely worth a roll of the dice for Liverpool.
