Six years after joining Liverpool, Sadio Mane left to join German giants Bayern Munich this summer.
Mane had become a legend during his time at Anfield. As a result, his departure was an emotional one. As per journalist Christian Falk on Twitter, Mane sent a message and a gift to the staff at Liverpool’s training ground.
As seen on Twitter, the details of the message sent by the Senegal icon have now been shared. Mane wrote the following to the Liverpool staff members.
“We have celebrated great victories together and created an incredible story in the last 6 years. You were always with me in good and bad times. In my heart you will forever have a special part. Thanks for everything.”
Mane shows his class
Mane’s appeal as a footballer doesn’t just come from his quality on the pitch. Away from all the razzmatazz of the Premier League, he always came across as a genuinely humble and thoughtful character while at Liverpool.
This has been demonstrated numerous times in his generosity towards the people of his home town in Senegal.
In Liverpool, there will also surely be countless people who have stories to tell of Mane’s kindness. From cleaning the local Mosque’s toilets, to dedicating a goal celebration to a fan with learning disabilities. Mane was a treasure.
Of course, he was also an excellent player, and will be missed for what he brought to Jurgen Klopp’s team.
We’ve already seen him score twice for Bayern as he hits the ground running in Germany. The Reds will miss his industry and tenacity as much as his goals.
But it’s time to move on.
No doubt some will apportion Liverpool’s failure to win their opening two league games on Mane’s absence. But it really has nothing to do with that.
Liverpool, and Mane, were poor on countless occasions with their former no.10 in the side. Only in the long-term will we see whether The Reds really do miss Mane, or if indeed, he misses them.
