Liverpool are one of a handful of clubs interested in signing Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
That’s according to 90min. They claim that The Reds are ‘keeping tabs’ on the 20-year-old, who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.
United are said to be ‘keen’ on making a move for Caicedo after their move for Adrien Rabiot collapsed. But they’re not the only ones interested. As well as Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus and Atletico Madrid all have the youngster on their radar.
However, Brighton reportedly have ‘no intention’ of selling the Ecuador international this summer.
Caicedo catching the eye in the Premier League
Caicedo has been one of the most eye-catching performers of the early weeks of the Premier League season.
He dominated against United at Old Trafford, which led to manager Graham Potter labelling him as ‘fantastic’ via The Argus. This has inevitably led to rumours that he could be on the move to a bigger club in the near future.
For his part, Caicedo does seem to have encouraged a move to Old Trafford in the past. As recently as May, the midfielder claimed that he dreamed of playing for United.
“My dream is to arrive at Manchester United,” he said to Mundo Deportivo via Goal. “I like English football a lot because it is a quick style of football.”
That doesn’t sound encouraging for a move to Liverpool!
But should United not get their man this summer, Liverpool should certainly keep an eye on his progress. The Reds’ need for a midfielder is well publicised, as is their desire to hold off until next summer.
At that point, Jurgen Klopp could need two or even three new additions in the position. With the top target widely thought to be Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, they could still use someone to supplement him.
If Caicedo continues his impressive trajectory this season, there’s no reason Liverpool shouldn’t be interested. Of course Brighton don’t let their players go on the cheap, but with proven Premier League experience, he could well be worth it.
He may have dreamed of playing for United, but he did ‘like’ Liverpool’s kit launch in May. Read into that whatever you want!
