Harvey Elliott has named Mohamed Salah as being the most helpful Liverpool player during his time at the club.
Thursday brought some good news for the youngster as he signed a new deal with The Reds. And speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Elliott was asked which of the senior players have been giving him advice.
“All of them have done it they’ve all helped me along the way, but I’d say more Salah and the skipper, Hendo,” said the 19-year-old. “Just because I’ve been playing on that right side now so it’s more kind of in their positions around their playing qualities.”
Elliott claimed that Salah in particular has been a huge help. According to the youngster, the Egyptian King has even gone as far as telling him to follow his every move in training.
“It’s them two who have helped me out, brought me aside and said ‘you need to do this,’ or ‘you can try this.’ Especially Mo, he’s always giving me different things to work on, he’s always telling me to follow him in training or follow him in the gym so he can help me out along the way,” Elliott said.
Elliott signs new deal at Liverpool
The discussion around Salah was an interesting titbit, but the headline news is that Elliott has signed a new deal with The Reds.
Reports emerged this morning that a deal was close to being done. As it turns out, close is a relative understatement, the contract was signed, sealed and announcement mere hours later.
The news underlines the faith that Jurgen Klopp has in his number 19 to deliver this season. With several midfield options missing already for Liverpool, Elliott looks set for a big role.
Although he is still yet to feature for a full campaign for his boyhood club, he should now be considered a full senior option.
There were times last season when he was still turning out for the underage sides. Given that his new contract has likely come with a big pay-rise, this should no longer be the case.
In that respect, there is a certain amount of pressure now on Elliott’s young shoulders. There has been so much talk over the years of his ability, but as of yet, we’re yet to fully see that at Liverpool.
It’s time for the talk to stop, and for Elliott to prove that he truly belongs in this Liverpool team.
