Liverpool are preparing a deal for Matheus Nunes, according to reports. The Reds supposedly see him as ‘perfect’ for them.
This comes from Correio da Manha. They claim that Liverpool will move ahead with a move for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes.
Nunes apparently impressed the Reds with his recent display against SC Braga. That was enough for Liverpool to get things going in the wake of Thiago’s injury at the weekend.
And they already know the price. Wolves had an offer accepted earlier in the transfer window of around £42m. That was £37m upfront, the rest in add-ons. Nunes rejected Wolves but that certainly doesn’t mean he’d reject Liverpool.
Liverpool prepare Matheus Nunes deal
There has been an awful lot of talk linking Nunes to Liverpool over the last few days. However, the initial links started long before that.
Correio de Manha reported the interest months ago but little came of it. Perhaps the end of the transfer window sees Liverpool get it over the line, though.
This one has been a saga, too. Nunes’s manager recently claimed that he’d rejected ‘life-changing’ offers to remain with Sporting. We’d have to assume he means an offer from Wolves, rather than Liverpool.

O Jogo, too, have pushed the idea that Sporting convinced Nunes to stay with them this season. But, again, we imagine that was before Liverpool had any serious interest. That stance could quickly change.
So why do Liverpool want Nunes? Well, journalist Dean Jones claimed they view him as a ‘perfect profile’ as he talked to the Football Terrace Podcast. That’s something we’ve long believed and at 23, the midfielder offers long-term prospects as well as short-term.
And for what it’s worth, we do think Liverpool could sign Nunes and still have room for Jude Bellingham in 2023. This wouldn’t necessarily kill any deal there – and that’s important in any midfield signing right now.
Whether Liverpool move for a midfielder or not this month, this kind of speculation will run rampant. We won’t complain if it does end up with Nunes at Anfield, though.
