'Best in the world': Manager confirms that Liverpool target has rejected an offer that could 'change his life'

Sporting boss, Rúben Amorim has confirmed that Matheus Nunes received offers this summer. Liverpool reportedly want the player.

Portuguese outlets have consistently linked Liverpool with a move for Matheus Nunes over the last month. The Sporting midfielder looks like the next big name to leave Portugal, after all, and the Reds signed the last two stars from the league.

Sporting boss Rúben Amorim recently talked about the interest in his player, claiming that Nunes has in fact rejected offers to leave this summer. He didn’t mention any teams but it certainly sounds as though the player isn’t eager to depart.

“I’m happy that Matheus Nunes is still here,” said Amorim with quotes from Record. “I’m happy that Sporting’s players, such as Matheus Nunes, reject offers that would change their lives to stay at Sporting.

“This is my reality, I am very happy with my squad and my players are the best in the world.”

Matheus Nunes rejects offers

Correio de Manha is the latest to link the Reds with interest in Nunes. Of course, that doesn’t mean that Liverpool are the ones who put an offer to the player this summer. This could, in fact, be a case of him waiting for such an offer and turning down ‘lesser’ proposals from elsewhere.

Because for what it’s worth, we do see a lot of value in Liverpool moving for Nunes. He’s not only a fantastic player but one who could fit in perfectly with Jurgen Klopp’s system.

We also believe there’s room to sign Nunes and Jude Bellingham, should Liverpool want to completely revamp their midfield. But it does sound as though that would be for 2023.

Bellingham certainly isn’t moving until next year and we imagine Nunes will stay put, too. As Amorim says, he has had the option to leave this summer if he wanted it.

Liverpool might have a shot at two elite midfielders next summer, then. It might end up being a good thing that Nunes isn’t up for a transfer right now, in fact, as it does sound as though the Reds are done for 2022.

We’ll cross our fingers that he remains on the market once 2023 rolls around.
