Report: Liverpool must shatter their transfer record by nearly £30m to sign their first-choice target

Liverpool would have to break their transfer record by around £30m to sign Jude Bellingham, according to reports. The Reds supposedly view him as a top target.

This comes from Bild. They claim that Borussia Dortmund would want €120m in order to sell Jude Bellingham as things stand. That comes to around £104m – and it’s a price that might rise.

After all, Bellingham will play a bigger role with Dortmund this year after Erling Haaland left the club. He’s also set to play in the World Cup this winter and could come away with a giant reputation.

So while the asking price is £104m right now, we could be looking at even higher come 2023. And that should probably worry Liverpool.

Jude Bellingham to set transfer record

This would be a record sale for Dortmund and almost certainly a record purchase for anyone that wants Bellingham. Liverpool reportedly do, seeing him as their ultimate signing next summer.

Goal quote a source as saying that the club wants a ‘Jude Bellingham-type’ as they hunt for their next star midfielder. Bellingham, you have to say, fits that description remarkably well.

Fabrizio Romano is also ‘sure’ that the Reds will enter the race for Bellingham. The Mirror believe that he’s their priority target for 2023.

And why wouldn’t he be? Bellingham is about as perfect as it gets for what Liverpool need and the timing looks ideal for the club. It’s hard to see a single downside here.

Except, of course, the price. Virgil van Dijk broke Liverpool’s transfer record when he joined in 2018 for £75m and the Reds are yet to break it. Darwin Nunez could do one day – but he needs to meet a bunch of add-ons first.

And so Liverpool would need to break their record by around £30m in order to get Bellingham. That’s a massive investment and one that the club can’t make if they have any doubts.

But honestly? We’re not sure there should be any.
