Calvin Ramsay has claimed that he wanted to sign for Liverpool as soon as he learnt of their interest in him.
Ramsay conducted his first interview with liverpoolfc.com after signing for The Reds yesterday. Asked how he felt when he first heard of Liverpool’s interest, Ramsay says it was an instant reaction.
“Because I did well at Aberdeen, there was a lot of speculation, especially in January,” he said. “But as soon as I heard the speculation from Liverpool, I just wanted to get it done, I knew that’s the club that I wanted to go to. So finally, we’re here, managed to get it done and I’m just buzzing, over the moon to be here.”
There was reportedly interest from Leeds United, as well as clubs in Italy. But it sounds like Ramsay only ever wanted to be at Anfield. Good lad!
Ramsay’s finally a Red
The tying up of the deal to bring Ramsay to Liverpool felt like a long time coming. His previous club, Aberdeen, were seemingly intent on driving a hard bargain for The Reds.
In the end though, Jurgen Klopp got his man. For a fee that looks like it couldn’t reach more than £7m or so, it looks like great business.
Maguire Makes The MOST Overpriced Premier League XI
Ramsay, for his part, looks like a confident young man ready to make an impression. Of course, he’ll have to wait for his chance, but he seems ready to learn and grow from working alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Liverpool getting business done early
It’ll make a big difference that the 18-year-old will have the chance to bed in for a full pre-season. Liverpool head back to the AXA Training Centre on July 4th. Ramsay signing now means that he’ll be among the players convening.
Barring any injuries, fellow new-boys Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho will also be present.
With Liverpool claimed to have now concluded their summer business, Klopp can get to work settling his new players into the system.
For Ramsay, that will consist of watching and learning from the best right-back in world football. His potential is such that it may not take too long before those ideas begin to settle in.
Welcome to Liverpool Calvin, we’re looking forward to seeing you develop.
