Calvin Ramsay will become Liverpool’s third summer signing, after a deal was agreed with Aberdeen.
That’s according to The Times, who report that Liverpool have come to an agreement of £4m for the 18-year-old.
The Reds could pay an additional £2.5m in add-ons, which are reportedly linked to Ramsay’s appearances in ‘team success.’
It’s claimed that the full-back will now undergo a medical, which reportedly won’t take place before the weekend.
The fee paid is set to be a record received for a player by Aberdeen. Liverpool are said to view Ramsay as the ‘understudy’ to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
No more incomings at Liverpool
With the good news out of the way, now for the disappointing kicker. The Times also report that Ramsay will ‘likely’ be Liverpool’s final signing of the window.
That will come as a blow to fans, who were hoping for a midfield signing to go with their two attacking captures of Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez.
But according to this report, that’s unlikely to happen.
That’s because with the impending arrival of Ramsay, Liverpool are said to be ‘happy with their squad.’
There are potentially one or two players from that squad heading through the exit door. But this is reportedly unlikely to change Liverpool’s stand-point with regards to further additions.
It has been a stance which has certainly benefeitted Liverpool in the past. Rather than go out and sign a second-choice player, they prefer to wait until the right moment to sign their top choice.
However, we’ve also seen that plan fall catastrophically apart, as it did when Liverpool failed to make a centre-back signing ahead of the 2020/21 season.
If Liverpool are to finish their summer spending there, it has still been a hugely promising window. Darwin Nunez is a statement signing, while The Reds are bringing in two more young players with big futures.
