Liverpool’s supposed transfer plan could hint at their serious interest in Jude Bellingham. We don’t think it’s just wishful thinking.
The Times claims that Liverpool won’t look to buy a midfielder this summer. We think that puts quite a lot of pressure on new-signing Darwin Nunez, admittedly, but there are some positives.
One of those positives is that the likes of Harvey Elliott could play a much bigger role next season. Nunez isn’t going to add creativity from midfield, of course, and we think Liverpool’s selection of attacking midfielders could find themselves with more minutes on the pitch.
But there could be another positive here. The Times claim that Liverpool won’t look for a midfielder in 2022 but it is their plan for 2023. And with that, we wonder if there’s genuine interest in Jude Bellingham.
Interest in Jude Bellingham
Bellingham appears likely to be one of the big transfer stories next summer. He’s already confirmed to Ruhr Nachrichten that he won’t move this summer, with Bild claiming that Borussia Dortmund could look to sell in 2023.
As we’ve said before, this timing is perfect for Liverpool and it’s something that should dominate the upcoming transfer windows. Bellingham, after all, is a sensational young talent and one who fits in at the Reds to an incredible degree.
He’s a ‘world-class’ talent, in the words of Jadon Sancho, and there is no better option to boost Liverpool’s midfield. And we know that the club like waiting for the right player, rather than going for who’s available right here and now.
That’s why we wonder if the decision not to buy a midfielder, despite the consensus that Liverpool could use one, is simply waiting for Bellingham. It’s certainly one of the few ways that would explain the lack of movement right now and one of the few ways that would actually justify the waiting.
Perhaps it’s wishful thinking but it all seems too ideal to be coincidence.
