'Could be our solution': Jose Enrique now urges Jurgen Klopp to sign 'interesting' free agent for Liverpool

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has urged Liverpool to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer this summer.

Writing on his Instagram story, Enrique suggested that the 30-year-old could be a ‘short-term solution’ for Liverpool’s midfield.

“Another interesting player that could be our solution to our midfield,” wrote Enrique of Eriksen. “And no spending nothing because he is a free agent. He is a short-term solution but then we can wait for Bellingham next season.”

Eriksen will soon be unattached following the expiry of his short-term deal with Brentford at the end of the month.

Eriksen still top-draw

Eriksen would be an exciting addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad. There were obvious fears about how he would fare upon returning to the rigours of the Premier League, but he’s been absolutely exceptional for Brentford.

Given the events of last summer, a few had perhaps forgotten just how good Eriksen was for Spurs barely 18 months before.

On his day, the Dane was one of the best players in the world. His technique and vision are exemplary and he has vast experience at the top level of the game.

As a free transfer, there would be little risk attached to bringing him to Anfield for a short spell. Enrique isn’t the only one championing such a move, Gary Neville has also stated his belief that Eriksen to Liverpool could work.

No room at the Anfield inn

However good he is though, Eriksen doesn’t feel like a natural fit for a Klopp midfield. He’s something of a transient player who loves to have the ball at his feet pinging clever passes around.

Liverpool already have one of those in Thiago Alcantara. And truthfully, no one does it better than the Spanish maestro.

There simply isn’t room in Liverpool’s midfield for another player of that mould. Klopp likes steel and energy from his midfielders and that isn’t really Eriksen’s game.

Still, it would be intriguing to see how he would get on and Liverpool could potentially do with boosting the midfield.

As Enrique points out, the club look poised to go all-in on Jude Bellingham in 2023. For a stop-gap solution, there won’t be many better value signings out there than Eriksen.
