Report: Liverpool now looking at 'frightening' Champions League winning talent who's even quicker than Salah

Liverpool are keeping an eye on Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry as a replacement for Sadio Mane.

That’s according to The Daily Mail, who claim that Liverpool ‘appreciate’ the qualities of the player.

Gnabry, who could currently be signed on a free transfer in 2023, is reportedly one of ‘several’ players on Liverpool’s radar.

As well as the German international, Liverpool are reportedly considering the likes of Arnaut Danjuma and Joao Pedro of Watford.

The perfect signing for Liverpool

If Liverpool aren’t interested in signing up Gnabry from Bayern, then they certainly should be.

The 26-year-old’s failure to so far agree a new contract means that he could be available this summer. Ironically, the Bundesliga champions look to be hoping to replace him with Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.

In that respect, the two clubs could essentially perform a swap deal. Who got the better end of that deal would depend on the fees involved.

But being three years younger than Mane whilst putting up similar numbers, Gnabry could be the perfect successor to Liverpool’s number 10.

He has consistently performed on the highest stages and won title after title at Bayern. After his stunning hat-trick against Tottenham in 2019, Pat Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live (11/12/2019) that Gnabry was ‘frightening’ even ‘quicker than Salah.’

Turning twenty-seven this summer, Gnabry is in the prime of his career and would be another top-level option for Jurgen Klopp.

As mentioned, his contract is currently due to expire next year. The way things stand, it looks unlikely that he will extend his stay in Bavaria beyond that.

Should the Champions League winner become available in the window, there would likely be fierce competition for his signature. With a slot possibly opening up in their attack, Liverpool joining that queue would seem like a sensible idea.
