Bayern Munich have reportedly offered Serge Gnabry a huge pay rise as Liverpool circle for his signature this summer. His current deal expires in 2023.
This comes from Bild. They believe that Bayern Munich have out a massive pay rise on the table for Serge Gnabry.
The winger’s current contract expires in 2023, making this a big summer for both parties. Bayern surely won’t allow him to leave for free next year and that suggests clubs could strong-arm them into a deal in 2022.
Liverpool, per Goal, are supposedly one of the clubs looking to do just that. The Reds like what they see in Gnabry and he could offer them a long-term option on the wing.
They could be looking for just that if Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mané opt not to renew their contracts. Thus Bayern have moved to stave off any real interest.
Bild’s report claim Gnabry is currently on around £6.7m per year. The new offer from Bayern would put him on £15.5m, however – a £9m per year pay rise.
Serge Gnabry and Liverpool
Bild say Gnabry hasn’t made his mind up on that but we’d be quite shocked if he said no. That’s serious money for a player who isn’t quite in the absolute top bracket.
Which, admittedly, is why Liverpool are looking at him. They love signing those players just below the elite level and turning them into stars themselves. It’s what they did with both Salah and Mané, after all.
Gnabry, then, would be a fine option if Liverpool had to replace either of their stars. There are an awful lot of ‘ifs’ here, though. This one only happens ‘if’ a star leaves, ‘if’ Gnabry rejects the new offer and ‘if’ Bayern decide to sell before his contract expires.
So to sum up, we won’t hold our breath.
