Jurgen Klopp addressed rumours around the future of Sadio Mané this week. Reports link Liverpool’s no.10 with a move away.
There’s a lot of talk around Sadio Mané and what his future holds right now. None of it is very clear – other than Bayern Munich reportedly wanting him.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg is the latest to push that story. He told Sky Sports that Bayern are increasingly confident of signing Mané this summer.
And in truth, it’s a story that makes sense. Bayern will lose Robert Lewandowski this summer and Liverpool’s no.10 would be an outstanding replacement. We saw this one coming, in other words.
But we’re not going to get an answer until after tomorrow’s final. That’s straight from Mané’s mouth – he promises a ‘special’ announcement on his future, anyway.
What does Jurgen Klopp think of all this, then? The Liverpool boss is trying to prepare for a Champions League final but faces constant talk around the futures of his star players.
“Sadio Mané to Bayern rumours?” he said, per Fabrizio Romano. “I couldn’t care less, at the moment… he’s focused on the final.
“It’s not the first time that I have had a Bayern rumour come up just before a big match.”
Sadio Mané’s future
Klopp certainly has been here before. He was Borussia Dortmund’s manager preparing for the 2013 Champions League final when talk spread that Bayern wanted to buy Mario Gotze from him.
That was slightly different, though – he was playing Bayern in the final. This one isn’t quite as bad, then, but it’s certainly frustrating.
Liverpool perhaps could have done more to avoid it all, however. They’re going into this summer with Mané, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all entering the final year of their contracts. That was always going to bring intense speculation, even ahead of a Champions League final.
Hopefully, this all gets sorted quickly once the final is done.
