Jurgen Klopp could boast two very strong possible line-ups at Anfield in the 2022/23 season with Liverpool interested in Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen.

The Reds already have one of the best squads in England, but barely strengthened in the last summer market. Ibrahima Konate would prove to be the Merseyside outfit’s only off-season acquisition, despite losing depth in areas with players such as Georginio Wijnaldum leaving.

Luis Diaz would additionally prove to be the sole addition secured in the January sales after Liverpool edged Tottenham Hotspur. Reports by The Athletic claim Spurs had agreed a deal with Porto as well as Diaz before the Reds offered the same £37.5m plus £12.5m in add-ons.

Klopp believed Liverpool did not need to sign a replacement for Wijnaldum last summer and instead promoted Harvey Elliott. But a serious ankle injury spoiled the 19-year-old’s chance to establish himself as a starting presence after starting three of the first four league games.

Elliott could now face heighted competition for places at Anfield next season as Klopp seeks summer swoops. So, here are Liverpool’s possible main and backup line-ups for the 2022/23 season, with the Reds interested in deals for Monaco’s Tchouameni and West Ham’s Bowen.

Klopp is unlikely to make wholesale changes to his main line-up next season, and will favour adjustments over a revolution. Goalkeeper is one position that will not see any change, with Alisson retaining the gloves after a campaign in which he has regularly produced vital saves.

Full-backs will also remain unchanged with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson the main men on Merseyside. But at centre-half, Virgil van Dijk could find that Konate starts over Joel Matip more often next term than the £36m summer signing has in his first season.

Midfield may also feature a fresh face with Liverpool interested in signing Tchouameni from Monaco against competition from Real Madrid. That’s according to Foot Mercato, who note the Frenchman will leave the Principality if the Monegasques receive offers of €75m (£63m).

Liverpool, Los Blancos and Paris Saint-Germain are all possible destinations for Tchouameni, who Ligue 1 listed in their Team of the Season. Klopp, himself, is a fan of the 22-year-old and has made him a priority target. However, Real Madrid have moved into pole for his services.

Klopp beating Real Madrid’s interest in Tchouameni could see the Monaco anchor become an instant starter in Liverpool’s midfield three. He would likely partner Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara in the engine room with a box-to-box presence beside the Brazilian and Spaniard.

Meanwhile, in attack, Diaz has quickly proven he can be a leading light on Merseyside after his mid-season move. The Colombian is also a versatile presence, but has enjoyed his most success from the left opposite to Mohamed Salah, forcing Sadio Mane into a central role.

Possible Liverpool 2022/23 XI: Allison (GK), Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago, Tchouameni, Salah, Mane, Diaz

Diaz’s rise since arriving on Merseyside and instant connection with Salah and Mane should likely see Diogo Jota join Roberto Firmino in a backup role at Liverpool next season, if all five remain at Anfield that is with Firmino, Salah and Mane all out of contract in a year’s time.

Jota and Firmino could share backup positions with a new addition at Liverpool, as well, with Klopp interested in raiding West Ham for winger Bowen. 90min note the Reds are long-term admirers of the 25-year-old. But Newcastle are ready to challenge any side for his transfer.

Jordan Henderson, Elliott and Naby Keita can hold the reserve engine room roles next term with Liverpool interested in Tchouameni. Yet, Klopp still faces a decision over Keita’s role as the Guinea international is another soon entering the final 12 months of their Reds contract.

If Liverpool elect to sell the former RB Leipzig star, signed for in excess of £48m, Curtis Jones would likely move up the pecking order in Keita’s place. While in defence, Konate claiming a starting role should see Matip partner Joe Gomez as the reserve centre-halves at Liverpool.

Klopp should no longer need to use Gomez as a makeshift full-back when the German rests Alexander-Arnold next term. That’s because 90min report Liverpool are confident of signing Calvin Ramsay of Aberdeen, who want £6m for the 18-year-old Leeds and West Ham target.

On the opposite side, Kostas Tsimikas has proven his worth as Robertson’s understudy this season. Caoimhin Kelleher has similarly shown his worth as Allison’s backup in goal to round out a strong backup XI Liverpool may boast amid Klopp’s interest in Bowen and Tchouameni.

Possible Liverpool 2022/23 backup XI: Kelleher (GK), Ramsay, Gomez, Matip, Tsimikas, Keita, Henderson, Elliott, Bowen, Firmino, Jota
