'He's sensational': Gary Neville claims Liverpool have already found their Mohamed Salah replacement now

Gary Neville thinks that Luis Diaz is ‘ready-made’ to be Mohamed Salah’s replacement at Liverpool.

Neville made the comments speaking via Football Daily. Asked to name his ‘best new player’ of the season, the pundit plumped for Liverpool’s Colombian revelation.

“He is absolutely sensational to the point by when Salah does leave in 12 months or this summer, you’re almost not going to be as sad as a Liverpool fan, as you have a ready made replacement,” he said. “An unbelievable player.”

For a player who hasn’t even spent six months at the club to be compared to Salah already says everything. Diaz’s impact at Liverpool has been absolutely phenomenal.

Diaz taking the heat off Mo

The prospect of Liverpool losing Salah has hung over this season as one of only a couple of dark clouds.

Since Diaz joined Liverpool in January though, there has been no room for negativity at the club. The quadruple push has been maintained and the energy that the 25-year-old has brought has been key in that happening.

Without his, and Sadio Mane’s, excellent form, Salah’s lack of spark would be a much bigger talking point.

As it is, Mo’s attacking colleagues have helped to massively take the heat off the Egyptian. His contract may not be sorted yet, but Liverpool are still winning despite his lean streak.

Had he been firing blanks, the team performing poorly, and his contract still up in the air, it would surely have led to discontent around the club.

Room for further improvement

Diaz isn’t the only reason for Liverpool’s fantastic form, far from it. But he has been the catalyst for this tremendous and unprecedented second-half of the season.

Whatever he goes on to do in a Liverpool shirt, he’ll do well to top his influence this season. The scary thing is that he really can improve though. His finishing when in on goal could do with work and he sometimes needs a better final ball.

These are all details that can be ironed out though. Fingers crossed he can iron them out long-term with Salah back to his best on the opposite side of the pitch.

On their day, either is a magical player to watch. They’re yet to both hit top form at the same time though, when they inevitably do, it’s going to be some show.
