Robbie Fowler says 'there's no doubt' about who Liverpool's 'top player' is right now

Robbie Fowler believes that Luis Diaz is now Liverpool’s top player. This comes after his goal against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Liverpool drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday. It was a massive game in the title race and one that, ultimately, saw the Reds fall just short. It was a tough game, though, as Spurs did all they could to frustrate.

Antonio Conte set his team up with a back five screened by a midfield four. It offered Liverpool next to no space in the final third, virtually shutting their forwards out of the game.

All but one, that is. Luis Diaz still found ways to look dangerous for Liverpool and he was the one who found a way to goal. That way, it turned out, was smashing the ball at a defender for it to deflect into the corner but there’s no denying that Diaz was the most dangerous Liverpool player here.

His constant running with the ball, his energy and his ability to popup wherever needed did worry Tottenham. It’s been the ultimate hallmark of his time with Liverpool, honestly – a player who will make things difficult for defenders in each and every way.

That’s something Robbie Fowler wanted to point out after the game as he believes Diaz is Liverpool’s ‘top player’ right now.

“He’s one of them players who gets the ball and he attacks the defender,” he told BT Sport. “Probably, I’d want to see a little bit more of him getting at [Cristian] Romero a bit more. Because he was the danger, he is Liverpool’s top player at the minute – there’s no doubt about that.

Luis Diaz continues to shine for Liverpool

There is a solid argument that Diaz is the top forward at Liverpool right now. He’s certainly performing at that level, as we wrote this week. In fact, only three Premier League players contribute to more chances than the Colombian.

But as for Liverpool’s outright-best player? We think both Thiago and Virgil van Dijk might have something to say about that.

Diaz, though, does keep getting better. This time next year, there honestly might be no argument against him.
