Liverpool must do something massive this summer if Pep Guardiola manages to sign Man United star – RTK View

Manchester City genuinely have their eyes on Paul Pogba, according to reports. This must force Liverpool’s hand this summer.

The Guardian claims that Manchester City want to sign Paul Pogba this summer. It’s an unusual one to read, given Pogba plays for Manchester United but his contract is up this summer.

That gives City a chance and they’ve certainly got previous. Carlos Tevez famously crossed the divide on a free transfer and the Guardian’s report suggests Pogba is open to doing the same.

City would want him to reduce his wages but the Frenchman likes the idea of working with Pep Guardiola. This one, it seems, could genuinely happen. It would be City’s second major signing this summer, too, if reports that Erling Haaland is on his way turn out accurate.

This Guardian reports that Haaland has already agreed terms and that City will trigger his release clause once the window opens.

Manchester City want Paul Pogba

So this is what Liverpool get for going after the Quadruple, then? Guardiola popping out and making two signings that would almost certainly be the biggest of the transfer window.

Liverpool and Manchester City is already an intense fight between two elite football teams. City appear desperate to use any advantage they can find in order to win it. And they’ve found that advantage in an enormous pit of money that they must keep under the Etihad.

The big question is what Liverpool do to match it. Well the truth is, they can’t match it. The Reds simply lack the money for signings like this – the numbers behind Haaland’s supposed move are absolutely insane.

But Liverpool have to do something or City will pull away with their mountain of cash. They can do that with smart signings, as they have done up to now, but their ageing squad increases the need to do something this summer.

If they don’t, City could create a chasm over the next few years as the Reds’ squad ages. That chasm would be incredible difficult to make up for and Liverpool’s best chance of maintaining success is to refresh the squad immediately.

Perhaps that’s by signing Jude Bellingham or Aurélien Tchouaméni. Maybe Liverpool sign a Premier League star like Jarrod Bowen. We’d just like to see something happen that competes with City on some level.

Liverpool vs Manchester City is an all-time rivalry but City won’t be the ones that fall away – the money prevents that. Liverpool just need to try and keep up in any way they can.
